I have cut out the head stock and really pleased with the result took all your suggestions and it worked out better than I thought
I have started sanding the body so I am on my way - still got more sanding to do
I am going to order the black stain because I think this will be better for the busrt
Thanks all you guys for your suggestions and ideas I am wrapped with the shape of my head stock
I will need more help though - but at least I have done something now - a bit more confident!
Cheers,
Alan
headstock looks excellent Alan well done ! Don't sand the flame cap at all, I'd put the black stain on then start sanding it then
Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck
Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in
Thanks wokkaboy - I am wrapped with the result - not quite symetrical and a couple of little chips on the back but way better than I thought I could do!
I have already started sanding the cap but I wont sand anymore until I put the stain on it
I am going to end up with a black stain, nullabhor ochre and outback sunset - do you think I could blend the three colors?
And do you just put the black stain around the outer edges?
I am going to stain a test piece of wood with both or all stains so hopefully I will be able to answer my own questions
The cap has a couple of small dings in it but I think I will just leave them because I dont want to sand thru the cap!
Thanks again for all your help and encouragement
Alan
Thanks bargeloobs - all the credit needs to go to you guys.
I couldnt have done it without your suggestions and prompts
Especially when I saw the pictures of your headstock - it was a thing of beauty - mine is not as good but getting there!
Thanks heaps again - you guys are awesome!
