you're doing fine mate, take your time.
Don't put too much stain or sealers etc on the neck pocket, or on the neck where it joins onto the guitar. It can effect the take up and adherence of the glue - raw timber is best.
Ah, I see it's a bolt on, no biggie then, but leave it thin, as you have it now is fine. Remember especially for set necks (glue in) though.

Thanks Stan. Yeah she is a bolt on so the stain on the heel should be sweet. Will be careful when spraying clears not to get too much down the bottom. Hopefully on Wednesday or Thursday I can get the burst on then clear it. I'm happy with the stain on the back, sides and neck, just need to tweak the top a tad more to get more natural wood showing. Nearly there.
Got the top where I want it now.
Here is the body with a damp cloth over it. Pretty happy with the outcome. The head stock didn't take stain on the front well and came out a bit patchy so now it's just undiluted black which turned out cool anyway. Neck is done, final ultra diluted black going on the back and sides now then I'll let her dry up, steel wool it in a few days and go from there.

coming along nicely Andrew. Are you hand sanding or using an orbital after 10pm ? I can understand not being popular with neighbors if you're using an orbital sander

Nah mate hand sanding with 400. Going super slow, more of a massage than sanding haha. That is until one of the millions of diesel mine trucks come past so I can give it a furious rub for about 15 seconds before returning to stealth mode.
I wouldn't think hand sanding would be loud enough to upset a neighbor, just put a TV or radio on and you will barely hear the sanding

Unfortunately I live in a mining town where most people work shift work so there is always someone just waking up or going to bed at weird hours. Noise complaints for the smallest things are the norm up here.
