Did you run a ground wire to the bridge post?

Yeah mate. I don't have the strings attatched yet, will that make any difference?

If you can't find the fault, post up some pics of your wiring and we'll see if we can spot anything.

    Scott.

Awesome thanks mate. I have a slight feeling I may know what the issue is but I'm probably wrong. I ran out of the wiring supplied with the pb kit so went to jaycar and got some 3mm electrical wire. They didn't have speaker wire. Could this be the cause? The only thing this wire is used for is the long run from the 3 way to output and grout output earth to tone pot. Also when I touch the output Jack plate it goes silent.

Shouldn't be an issue mate. As long as it conducts electricity you should be fine.

It's definitely a ground somewhere. Take a pic of the cavity/your output jack and we can help you diagnose a bit better. Make doubly sure that your solder joints are all good (no blobs/balls/dull).

This'll be an easy fix mate no worries!

Thanks mate. I'll go over everything tonight and tidy up and straggly bits and see how that goes.

make sure you have wired the output jack the right way around, i suspect that may be the issue

Thanks for the reply. Tried that last night and same issue, stacks of buzz that disappears when I touch a metal part, especially the Jack plate. Gonna rewire it later tonight but this time I'll use a 3mm wire of each pot to sum all eartha to a common point. At the moment there is 3 spots on the tone and 2 on the volume serving as earths.

Just finished rewiring the whole guitar. Unwired everything, cleaned all the terminals and started again with common earths on each pot and waddayano. Silence! Now tomorrow night will be screwing in the tuners, truss cover etc, oil up the neck and then time for some drop b riffage. Only down side is I used the wiring loom thing from the untouched ib7 in the studio. Is that vintage cloth stuff any good?

Good news. Sounds like you're on the home stretch. I like the 'vintage cloth' wire, not because of any tonal reasons, but it seems to stay where you put it, eliminating most of that feeling you need a third hand. And no fiddly stripping wires.
