I've never heard of the dragonfire pups before Andrew. Very interested to hear your impressions. Will definitely warrant a sound demo when you are done!

    cheers,
    Gav.

    here are some updates!
first photo is the neck all sanded back with 1200 ready to go again

first few coats of the silver going on nice and thin. it sparkles so nice in the sun

and now for the daunting part. first i cut out a trace of the body shape, a few screws with tape over the heads to protect the body and placed over the body making sure it lines up well.

  3. #53
moment of truth! the body all painted, a few clear coats as a sealer and then the burst

second photo is the burst. had a but of an over spray problem so i'll wait till tomorrow to clean it up

third is the headstock, unsanded and no clears as yet but coming up schmick

here is the neck all finished. the back just needs to be cleared and the front and back of the headstock needs a fine sand.

next is the body. looks a bit patchy in this photo but i thinks its just the kitchen lights

next i removed the tape for the binding and this is how it turned out. looking good so far

  5. #55
first up is just another pic of the binding

second is the intended head stock

i've got the truss cover on the way, custom in the typical les paul type and EX-1A under it

also, got the waterslide decal coming from the states. giddy up!

So now the neck has had 3 coats of clear. Will leave that for a week, light sand it and go again. As for the body, back and sides are ready to be cleared but the top is being a pain. Whoever thought bursts with an aerosol would be so tricky. To make matters worse I've ran out of silver and the closest paint shop is a 3 hour drive away!

Looking great Andrew! Those rattle-can bursts can be really difficult (so I imagine from the other threads here), but you seem to have nailed it. Love the back and sides. Is that metallic black? It looks awesome.

    cheers,
    Gav.

Nah mate it's just a gloss black. When I blended the silver in a few specks of metallic went on to the black which smooths it out a bit. In the top where I did silver first then the black, the black is splattering a bit too much. Neck, back and sides are done now, just want to do the top again.
