Thread: Gavins RC-1 Stone Roses Tribute

  1. #151
Gav, I'll be honest, at stage #5 or so, I was concerned. BUT, that looks fantastic! I'm not surprised you keep going back to check it out. It is a work of art.

If it is possible to clean the binding I would, I think it would provide a nice clean frame for the "chaos".

Well done mate! I'd can't wait to share this on our Facebook page, but I will wait 'til you're finished.
    Cheers,

    Adam

    Thanks Adam,
Yeah I agree about the binding. I've decided to try and make it a priority before I clear. Fingers crossed!

    Cheers,
    Gav.

Didn't somebody post a tool they made with a razor blade stuck into a piece of wood that was a perfect binding cleaner? Or did I dream that?
    Cheers,

LOL. Yeah, it will be a little harder with the plastic acrylic paint blobs as they will tear when scraped. Ill have to go around the inner edge with an exacto knife first..

    Cheers,
    Gav.

    Ahhhhhh Grasshopper.....
You have channeled the inner Jack the Dripper perfectly

I disagree with the idea of cleaning the top binding..
The side binding is enough of a frame, I wouldnt want to jar the eye by scraping the top clean and creating a stark outline.

Pollock never framed his work. my 2c worth

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Sorry DB, I overruled you on this one . The paint on the top of the binding just made the paint job look 'incomplete' and amateurish somehow.

I burned a little midnight oil and got the top of the binding clean. The combination of exacto knife and binding scraper jig did the trick. Makes it look like more of a professional job IMO. Now she is definitely ready for clear coats!

    cheers,
    Gav.

I guess he's just another Pollock imitator, eh DB?

Looks good Gav. Keen to see the colours pop more with the clear on!

Did you paint inside the F-hole white, or is still bare wood. It still looks like bare wood in the picture, but that might be the lighting.
