Way to go AJ. An awesome job you are doing there. Building my first scratch build is not even on the horizon for me, so I'll be watching this thread with great interest.

Yeah, the work bench.. am having to rough it as my shed has been taken over by all manner of my daughters gear .. so much for temporary storing here.. over 2 + years now, when she went over to Perth for work. Nearly time to ring the salvo's to get rid of it, I keep threatening to do that .

Hey - I washed up in Perth 21 years ago when I came across to do Uni before returning east. As you can guess, the return east never happened. I do return though every couple of years to remind myself how nice it is on this side of the country .

As for the workbench - as they say - necessity is the mother of invention...

I don't mind so much working on the "movable workbench".. comes in handy..lol
Been a bit lax lately as was having a little trouble with the neck being a tad narrower that the norm, but have managed to line up the bridge now with a tad under 1.5 mm for the strings from the edge of the fretboard at the neck joint.

After seeing the references to infa-red heating systems for paint drying, I had a browse around an off colored shed to find some 275 watt infa red lamps, and 2 el-cheapo outdoor floodlights. So will now have an infa red heating lamp to speed up the drying processes.. Last heat lamp systems I had access to or used were the old style of many, many bulbs that sent the leccy meter into orbit.. So basic style lamp system for ~ $40
Hopes to get some more done over the weekend , next week will be far to hot for me outside.

What do you guys think may be better - a rosewood surround for pickups? or maple? got some of each style of wood in 3 mm thickness .

Hi AJ. This is a bit of a left-handed jump. Did you every record and post any clips of those pups you wired yourself? I'm keen to hear them and I can't find anything in the other forum pages. I may have missed it though.

Not yet Lawry, I did speak to the fella at my local music store (Underground music) and asked if he would give it a run though for me so I could get a vid of it being put through it paces by some someone with some talent, I do hope to get that sometime before the end of this month.

Speaking of shapes, is the body gunna be basically Strat-ish?
Sounds like you're agonising over the fit-out, but that's par for the course.
Anyway I reckon you've got some great ideas to play with . . .

P.S. I woulda just bought 6 oysters on the 1/2 shell and slipped 'em down the gullet.
Nevertheless, I hope the real oyster nacre markers work out
