Decided to swap all of my IO plugs for Amphenol and EWI plugs. I haven't had problems with the straight ones, but for what it costs to swap them, why not. Found a deal on Amphenol plugs...so away we go.
I also spoke too soon about not finding Neutrik plugs at a discount. I just got 10 of their NYS22 connectors (these look like Switchcraft style) for $20 from an "open box" on e-bay.
Neutrik always makes me a little nostalgic. Neutrik was founded in Liechtenstein in the town of Schaan which is close to Vaduz where I worked for a while in my salad days. It's a tiny, wealthy country with an economy almost entirely devoted to being a tax haven...but amazingly, they still make a lot of their products there. Of course they make things everywhere.
...as does Amphenol. I thought that Amphenol was a US company...which it is...but it turns out that Amphenol Audio is based in Australia. Manufacturing is done in China mostly I suspect, but the design work, turns out to be in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, the Crate plugs that I thought were borrowing the name from Crate amps... were produced SLM MarketPlace...a division of St. Louis Music, that were the folks who made Crate amps. So it turns out they weren't borrowing the name...it was actually their name.
