FYI - I think the issue with photos being invalid is that their size is too large. They need to have the longer side less than 1000 pixels. Try reducing the size of the pictures and try again.
Also some graphics types won't upload. Once you've reduced the size you may want to make sure it's a jpg file. There are other file types that work, but when in doubt I try to convert to jpg.

If I need to change the size or type of file, or crop the image, I use Irfanview on computer, which is free and open source.
