If it was me I would fill the bad part of the veneer with a maple wood filler lightly sand it down then I would spray the front of the body with a candy and I would just stain or dye the back and sides as normal I would use a 6mm fine line tape up the binding that's the seperating line I would dye or stain the back and sides 1st and then mask up the back and sides and then I would use the candy on the front once that drys then I would clear the whole body, I would use a spray gun if you don't have 1 used the paint below I've used it before then use a tin of 2k clear over the whole bady, why use a candy it won't sink into the maple veneer so the filler won't stand out you'll have a nice translucent finish with that tiger strip veneer will look very nice

I pick up how do it I purchased an LTD FM650 which was see though red, you can even do the back and front just use 6mm fineline tape and sanding sealer on the back and sides to fill the grain not required on a basswood you'll need 2 cans of candy once you painted the back and front remove the fineline tape off and clear it let the candy dryovernight
I understand it might scare you but you will end up with a beautiful looking guitar if you mess it up use a solid color but you won't need to and its a to nice to paint it with a solid colour
Thats how I would do it
