There have been lots of discussions about different values of caps and resistors on these forums, and their use with tone controls, treble bleeds, varitone controls, modifying pot values...
I have learned that nothing quite beats experimentation. To do that you need caps and resistors of different values. As a died in the wool cheapskate I was happy to learn that 660 capacitors in 24 values can be purchased as cheaply as just a few "guitar" caps. For less than $7 US, I got these 100volt polyester film caps (chicklet caps). These are the same caps Leo Fender used in G&Ls.
I purchased resistors the same way. As a result I have way more than I need, but at less cost than if I bought only what I need.
