Traffic had dropped off quite a bit before the Adam sold the business. He had stopped getting new inventory and doing custom orders. Since Tim has gotten his feet under him there has been a steady uptick in the numbers of folks using the forum. Nowhere near where it was when it was at its peak, but hopefully it will continue to grow back.

Being of a certain vintage I'm on my last build "an unmentionable", I haven't owned a G style guitar since around 1970 and haven't gigged or recorded professionally for over 40 years so I don't need an ever increasing herd (can't afford it either)

Tele, Strat, Shergold, Baritone, 2x basses and an nashville tuned acoustic plus the yet to be completed unmentionable through a Yamaha THR10 are all I need now.

All will go to one of my grandsons when I'm done with them.

Once the current build is done I'll probably become an infrequent visitor again

Probably not soon on the LP/SG front. Evidently the new owner got a threatening letter from G1B50N.

But I know what you mean about jonesing for an SG. In my case what I'd really like is one of the Epi batwing series that has the same scale and electronics as the SG ...

I tried just recently to buy a pickguard from Guitar fetish that would have cost me USD $30 but seeing as I am in Australia it was going to cost me $120 after shipping and dollar conversion so I am now going to make a template and cut my own.

I have 4 SG's on the go. One for my nephews son which is stained black and will have a wipe on poly applied. A basswood bass and a previous built mahogany repainted in solid colour. The bass is going to have a Musicman bass style pickup fitted. After spray painting the bodies I have made up my mind to never spray again and I am now only using satin poly or oil finishes either applied by brush or wipe on. The last basswood SG I bought I made a jig up to remove the neck angle so I can use a through body bridge as I have found a fondness of said bridge styles. All Gibson style guitars I am still to finish will have the neck angle removed so a through body style bridge can be fitted.

I also have a Strat that I wanted to use some P90's in as all my others just have standard Strat style pickups. I have a Tele that has a longer neck that I am going to make into a baritone. I have an offset that will be made into a Bass 6. I have another offset that will have Jazzmaster pickups inserted. Lastly I have 2 explorer models that I am going to put some mini humbuckers in one and the other is a 7 string. So in all I have 10 on the go but of course funds is the limiting factor plus weather and family duties.

I am now just going through pickup styles so all my home built guitars have different style pickups and have gone away from trying to replicate store bought. Also looking at revisiting previous builds to make them a little better with setups and some redoing of finishes. If it is made of basswood will put some form of stain on but if its a nice wood, like Ash then I will just make it natural without any colour put on.

I really like the idea of getting away from the "standard" style of mass market guitars. Part of the fun of building is getting something you can't just go and buy off the wall at Guitar Center.

Before you spend a fortune on parts or take a lot of time making your own, you might want to ask Tim about things on your shopping list. At one point he posted that he had a lot of parts that are not on the website, and would part with them at very reasonable rates. Never hurts to ask him about things on your shopping list!

They did that to Adam old owner of pitbull I have been doing a bit of reading on it, Gibson has new owner which is a corporation and they took Dean guitars for copyright infringement, apparently Dean have been building flying V type guitars since 1972 Dean lost the case but are appealing it to the apelet court in the USA, their is a law if they don't chase copyright infringement they can lose the right to it apparently it happened to fender who have lost the copyright that's why you see them everywhere, but gets back to Gibson haven't built a decent guitar for years, me I've got 3 LP and now 1 SG back in 2001 I purchased a Tea burst Gibson Les Paul standared it cost $4800 new, it was a beautiful looking thing I only had it for 3 weeks took it back and changed over for a AM Stratocaster and a AM telecaster in candy apple red they played better and that's when I fell in love with Telecasters/stratocasters so I got 2 new American fenders for the price of the gibson

There are a lot of G1B50N guitars that I like a lot, but I have no love lost on the company. Can't get a clone. Can't afford an old one. To rub salt in the wound, you can spring for a new one just to discover it may not be much good.

I am not a huge fan of the modern FMI corporation either, but I do prefer the business model where they seem to make a guitar for every price point and quality standard. They compete directly and successfully with their challengers, and seem a whole lot more successful than their litigious G1B50N counterparts.
