    Surface Router Bit

    Hi All,

Looking to put together my own body with some scrap wood i have laying around and looking to use a router jig to do some levelling of the surface. I have a 1/4" Hikoki Laminate Router and wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a surface planer router bit that isn't too expensive?

I'm only levelling a relatively small amount and not all that often so not looking for expensive options etc, just something i can use on the very odd occasion at this stage.

This is in my price range and looks ok but not sure: https://www.carbatec.com.au/1-1-8-di...poil-board-bit

    Any thoughts?

It's ok, decided to stick with the one above after a bit more reading, some reviews found etc and talking to them :-)

Hope it works for you, and that you'll give a review. I confess that I have never heard of a spoilboard bit. Looks like it should do the job. Hope you'll give it a review ;-)

I'll definitely let you know how it goes...will test out on an offset soon to see if it was worth it. :-)

A number of folks here have used a router for planing. Some good pics of jigs they have made.

McCreed has also talked quite a bit about his Stew Mac planer that works in a drill press. I don't think he even needs a jig, but if I were doing it with a router I would definitely build one. Every time I have tried to use a hand router without a jig it has been a mistake.

A planing jig is pretty simple. the router is attached to a plank that sits across two surfaces of the same height like a couple of pieces of rectangular aluminium extrusion. The spoil board bit is designed for planing the spoil board of a CNC router flat. There's a pic on page 2 of my mean gene thread.
