I tend to go with the old manual coping saw/rasp/file method. Just grab a couple of beers and sit out on the front deck and work slowly. The slower I go, the more beer I get to drink. The first couple, I tried putting the neck in a pivoting vice. I wasn't clamping down on the frets, I was padding and clamping the sides of the neck. But not wanting to tighten too much for fear of damaging frets or the neck itself, I found it moved around too much and wasn't that great an option. The last one I did, I just sat in a comfy chair and held onto the neck with one hand, used my legs and the chair to brace it and cut with the other hand. I found this a much easier option and ended up only being a two beer job including the filing time.
