No, it actually darkened a little with the clears as I used Tru Oil. I was hoping it would darken a lot more than it did. My issue was that I went with the Dingotone stains which I'd never used before. Plus, it's a mahogany body and the colour just didn't work on it. The original kit I ordered was not mahogany but they'd actually sold the last one of what I wanted and it wasn't updated on the site. So, I got "upgraded" to this kit as the wait on the one what I wanted was unknown, but I stuck with the original stains I'd ordered in the blind hope it was going to work anyway.
To be honest, I don't think the colour would have worked as I wanted on any wood. The other issue I had with going with the Dingotone was the colour choice was limited and it wasn't overly obvious from the small amount of pictures provided what the colour was going to look like. Then I had the dreaded issue that others have reported of it taking absolutely forever to dry properly - I'm talking weeks. By the time I realised how it was going to look, I'd invested too much time and money and going back was not really an option - I don't think there's a very good success rate in stripping back those veneers as they are so thin. Since it wasn't really the kit I was after in the first place, I just didn't care enough to put any more time or money into it so I just kept going. Not fussed on the Bigsby or the three humbuckers. It still gets played, just doesn't get displayed.
So, long story short, the red on Omuine's build looks perfect and I'm jealous.
