Well! I'm back after 7 years. I was having problems with the paint. Every time I applied it, it go darker to the point I was loosing the wood figure. So I left it until recently when I got the idea of using "Food Colouring" as a coating option. I used it to good effect on my 3rd build which will be a new post soon. It was perfect for the colour coat option.
I happened to be at a Supercheap store and noticed they had a two-pack clear coat that didn't have to be used up all at once "Colorspec Acrylic Paint, Deep Crystal Clear". It was expensive but perfect for the job. No need for compressors or spray paint equipment. This was the result

Love a bright red guitar. Also like your food colouring option, haven’t heard anyone doing that before.
