Thread: Having trouble wiring IB-7

    Having trouble wiring IB-7

With the seperate compartments for the switch and the vol pot,
I have experienced much trouble today.
Last night i spent the night watching every wiring video on pitbull's youtube page.
One thing i did notice was that each seemed to have the luxury of most of the wiring being done in one location.
I started today positive and expecting to be done, but my tail is between my legs.
The fact that the hot wire from each humbucker feeds through to the switch compartment and the ground wire from each feeds (or rather i couldnt feed through to the vol pot compartment.
I was convinced id have this done after my extensive video watching, diagram following, wiring soldering where possible, but I am seriously left now having used extra wire to extend the ground wires for length, but ive left myself possibly short of the correct kinds of wires.
I'd love some help, suggestions ?

My extra wire attachments for ability for ground wires to reach vol pot compartment
Ridiculous maybe, but almost necessary seeming ( unsure how else to solve issue yet)

Neck attached, floyd rose trem attached, that copper shielding was SO fiddly. But no challenge in comparison to my meeting my maker in wiring the IB-7 ,

This is how I've left it after throwing down the tools and calling it a day, cranking some Pantera, early Korn and early Slipknot

Whilst the IB-7 wiring diagram is electrically correct, I agree it's a practical PITA. So you can use an alternative method of wiring (a ground wire just needs to be connected to ground, it's not that fussy) so I'd suggest doing this (roughly modified version of the PB wiring diagram):

Leave each pickup's hot wire connected as at present, but connect the braided ground wires to the ground lug of the switch. You won't need extended ground wires then, and it makes the volume pot soldering less complicated with two less wires to solder.

Note that the exposed braid wire lengths should be kept as short as possible (use longer insulated hot wire lengths) or cover the braid with heat shrink, otherwise it will be very easy for a grounded braid wire to short out a signal connection on the switch and you'll get silence.

Wow Simon, thank you so much for the prompt response. And so much of a relief !
    I really appreciate the thought

Nice re-jig of the wiring by Simon. Gamble88, the copper sheilding work looks good.
You're at the 'giving birth' stage where you just want it done and sounding!
