    First Build AG-1.....Back in Black

Just received my kit. Looks very nice.
So far I am thinking about going with a
black matte or satin finish with black hardware
and black Grover locking tuners. Hence the title.
Looking forward to starting the build.
I will be posting photos once I work out how to.
    Cheers

Congratulations on your kit. I finished my first build a few months ago. I made some mistakes that I won’t make again on my next kit.

Mistake #1 - I didn’t “seal” the body after using the wood grain filler. Non toxic schellac is what I should’ve used after filling the grain and before the color coat. No big problem, the body is sealed up and protected, it’s just the paint settled into every sanding scratch. I did want a thin finish and that’s what I ended up with, it just could’ve been smoother if I’d used this:

Mistake #2 - I didn’t shield the control cavities and didn’t solder the pots properly. I will redo in the future.

Here’s what I did right: I used a drill bit vise and hand drilled every pilot hole by hand - no electric drill needed.

Polishing pads that attach to your drill...use them. Wow, the shine came out!

    Good luck, have fun.
