    First Guitar build - ATL-1SB

    Hi there!

So I ordered my first guitar kit, the ATL-1SB with a Jotoba fretboard. I already built another company ukulele 2 years ago, was a lot of fun, but now I want to build something that will be useful (played that ukulele about 6 or 7 times). Thanks to Adam and Andre for the support through my selection.

I am planning on finishing the Spalted Maple top as clear as possible, I don't wanna 'fade' the spalting by putting colors on that.

Still thinking about the way I'll finish the Ash back and neck, maybe a light brown, maybe a dark brown, stain or dye.

For the Jotoba fretboard, I was first thinking about getting a rosewood or ebony one, but would have been too long to receive the kit compared to the Jotoba one, and I didn't really want a maple one, I don't want to need to put a varnish on it, and Imo, I don't really like the look of a maple fretboard.
I might want to darken the Jotoba, we'll see when i receive it.

For the final coat on the body, I'll probably go with a matte or satin clear coat, I don't want anything too glossy, as I'm not so equipped and/or experienced in this kind of coating, matte or satin seems more "forgiving".

For the neck final coat, I'm still not sure, still have reading to do... I think I read Tung oil, you might want to give me your advise on that.

I'm pretty sure I'll have very much fun building this guitar, and we'll see how it turns out before ordering upgraded pickups and hardware.

I'm looking forward to read you advise.

Will be keen to hear how this turns out! I've nearly finished my first build, ATL-1SW. I chose to stain the spalted top and it come out really well!

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

There you go! Cabots jarrah satin stain & varnish (combined) for the body, and danish oil for the neck. Check out my build diary for a few more!
