My "solution" was to put a p-bass pup in place of the neck pup on a Jazz bass, which I like a lot.

I also have one of the J special order necks from PB. It seems really nice modern C with a J taper. Just what the doctor ordered. I haven't yet decided what to put it on... Maybe a p Bass with a light body...
