My Maton acoustic has a Queensland maple neck (as well as back and sides). It's been left fairly natural with no grain filling, which does make it feel slightly 'rough' under the hand. If I could change anything on the guitar, I'd either have grain filled or lacquer filled the pores on the neck so that it felt smoother.
Queensland maple isn't a true maple, but is a branch of the citrus family. As a result, it's more akin to mahogany than maple in general texture and feel.
