So as an update, it sounds, surprisingly, rather like a Strat!
The FrankenLab manufactured neck adjusts well and feels good under fingers. The ironwood board looks great and despite all the monkeying about with repositioning the tuners (Twice) it holds tune really well.
The only real down side has been I cut my E string slot a hair too deep so I have a first string buzz issue. I am going to craft a brass nut for it. I know I said never again, but it’s only an F style nut How hard can it be?
The adjustment I made to the heel height has induced some back angle, so at some point I will need to address that, but for the moment a StewMac .25 degree shim has corrected it enough to sit the action where I like it.
I will eventually get around to correcting some of these smaller things as time goes by. I will also eventually get around to doing a sound demo for it.

Sooooooo, it’s been a while on this one. I persisted with it in its current form but without a specially crafted body, that puts the controls in a place that isn’t a massive pain in the butt, upside down strats are not a great idea. Unless you’re Jimi. Or apparently Steve Millar.
But one impulse purchase later, we have a pristine (Right Handed!) American Ash body from Adam, so now to hack it to bits....

I like it when the FrankenHacks work the way we intended.....
Guess I’ll have to patch that hole in the neck now.

That's what Igors are for.
Nice work.
Slowly progressing in between painting and staining and fettling of other things...

I still have to strip the headstock and redo the veneer on it, drill out and plug the original neck mount hole and probably add some side dots. The scratch plate is a proof of method from cheap Bunnings acrylic. It’s too thick and horrible to work with, so I need to get in some actual 2mm pick guard material. The observant will find the faulty pup cut out rout fairly quickly I would imagine. But the template is good as far as shape, so we will persist.

I was glad to read that the black pickguard is just a template. At first I thought "woah, someone strums hard with metal picks".
I love the grain on the body, should look tasty when finished.
Oh, and clear out your PMs![]()
