Thanks Fretworn, that's some great advice. So the next steps for me is to:
    • Sand to prepare for "burst" effect
    • Add the darker outlines to get the "burst" effect
    • Sand and prepare for the intensifying coat
    • Sand the beading until I get rid of any marks
    • Sand with the 0000 steel wool including the beading so that the beading is smooth
    • Sand again
    • Intensifying coat
    • Sand with 0000 again if necessary
    • Finishing coat

Hey all, I'm trying to decide how to proceed with my bass neck. So, I've stained the body and now I'm just waiting for next weekend to start on the colour intensifying coat.

As this is my first build and I'm not sure how this will turn out - I'm probably making some mistakes and I'm learning from them - I was to wait to see what the body looked like before I tackled the neck so that whatever I do to the neck looks and feels like it belongs. The body is stained with DT Black Stump.

The thing is, as I see it, I have 3 options:
    1. Fully Black Stump stained
    2. Fully Clear (no colour)
    3. Black stump on the front of the headstock and clear on the back

My first guitar is a black Ibanez with black on the front of the headstock but a goldenish/clear maple on the back of the headstock and neck. I like that, but I'm trying to decide what is the best move for this build.

    What do you guys think?

Here's 1 vote for #3 (Black stump on the front of the headstock and clear on the back).

Thanks for that TZK321. I was leaning towards that way myself so there's 1 1/2 votes for #3

I'm still thinking I'll wait to see how the body goes. I'm looking for opinions on what people think looks good. Looking at some of the guitars of the month, the common thing seems to be having the neck the same colour as the body and that looks great too!

(I used to be indecisive. Now, I'm not so sure... )
