Maybe you could use a this as a veneer or cap over a lighter species of wood.

I've got a local timber supplier in perth (The Timber Bloke) that I get sheoak from, I'm happy to help you find a suitable piece... but what are the regulations on posting wood interstate?

I’m not sure, I get stuff in from Qld and Vic all the time with no issues. I’ll check for WA. It I’m not aware of any issues other than certain fruit and veg.
if it’s all good, I’d be grateful for a set of eyes over there

Thanks for bringing The Timber Bloke to my attention (Wish I knew about them six months ago). Might have to find an excuse to head down there.

It's totally worth taking a drive down to Naval Base to check out their stock. They've got a pretty good range of timber in the showroom, the pricing on the rough cut timber is really good

I was planning on taking a ride over there maybe next weekend to find a good bit of sheoak for my tailpiece.

Let me know what you're looking for.

WA has some really strict import quarantine (I've got a mate who drove his caravan to the NT, shipped it home on a truck, then got fined because he'd left his WA-purchased jar of honey in it!), but nothing on export. There should be no issue with shipping timber from WA.
