No, Waz. When I buy from O/S, I like to stock up for the future to save on postage and time, although this mob usually only take a week or so to get here from England.

Carbatec got me, it was just a matter of time:

After doing a test run on my practice head stock, I decided to make the lower edge of the real head stock sharper:

Tomorrow I will be staining the neck. Not exactly sure how much to dilute this stuff though, seems just a little too dark at full strength:

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

The first attempt at staining the neck, I mixed metho 25ml to 75ml golden teak. The pic doesn't really show how dark it turned out, but I wasn't happy with it.

I sanded it back and added an extra 150ml of metho to the mix. This was much more to my liking but still very dark in places.

Is it just a matter of sanding the dark areas? I am totally in the dark with this stuff

I'd guess not, I'd say sanding the dark areas will result in a patchy look. If you are after the aged look, I'd go much more dilute. The timber will yellow a fair bit with a gloss clear on it anyway, it won't look white with a clearcoat on it. Particularly if you use a polyurethane.
I'd sand it right back, shouldn't be too hard as you have the rosewood neck, and then restain with a much weaker solution.

    I'm back

    Makeshift guitar holder:

    First sanding sealer coat applied:

Neck is giving me hell, using a walnut stain/varnish, now:

    Update

The body got its second coat of sanding sealer. It's a pity I ruined the string through holes as it is looking nice with just the sanding sealer applied:

The neck, however, is a different story. The walnut stain varnish was a disaster, and sanding it off proved difficult due to it not drying completely. I have resigned myself to live with a linseed oil finish and patchy bits:
