Yeah, there are a few craters there to either sand out or let the grain filler take care of that.
On the end grain, nothing other than grain filling will fix that but on face sides of the body that might be a bit too much if using a really dark contrasting colour.

Thanks mate. I’ll give it one more go with 180 just to be sure before grain filling.

I’ve read up on the steam technique. I did go back and re-sand with 120 and 180 and that seemed to get rid of a lot of the flaws.

Used some thread to make sure the neck lines up. Not perfect but good enough I think.

The jazz pup might be a little misaligned if I want even space with the E and G strings on the neck. I don't think it will be bad though.

First go with grain filling. The top and back look good but the sides still have some holes. I'm going to do another round of filler since my first one was pretty watery and probably not as thick as it should have been.

Agree that the end grain needs a bit more and a toothpaste type mix rather than watery is the way to go.

Time for take 3 of grain filling. I don't know if I sanded too much or what but there's small areas that aren't fill.

After this grain fill I think I'll sand with 320 instead of 240.

Hi buddy, suggest a slightly stiffer and thicker timber mate consistency or whatever grain filler stuff you are using and leave it for 48 hours to fully set and go off before sanding back. Those shots look like either no grain filler took hold or was sanded back out of the holes you were trying to fill.

Here is a shot of a dark ebony TM job I did a couple of years ago.....
