Ok, so first dont judge the strings they are from the parts bin (still waiting on my kit set )

Looks like my neck is missing the angle yours has but could use it. Action is decent until about the 5th fret if the bridge floored then by the 12th is crazy high. Also the bridge pickup won't mount low enough and I'm getting string buzz on that.

Letting the truss rod adjustment settle in for a day or so then checking again.

    And then there's this...

Looks like this bass needs 35" scale strings

Is it normal to be so obsessed with the first one?

Looks fantastic! And for whatever it’s worth, the level of obsession is not unique to just you! As for the strings, I would recommend a long scale set. I recently switched most of my guitars over to the DR Black Beauties bkb6-30 set, which claims to have a 38 inch to taper length; Plus it’s a six string set so you can choose whether you want to string your bass B-G or E-C.

I’m going to swing by Staples today and see if I can find some of that printable window decor paper you used to work on a headstock logo! Love the chicken theme!!

Interesting about the bridge-pickup height re the fretboard. I’ll have to build mine up more and explore this further. However, just levelling the neck so it looks good by eye and feels natural to hold, there’s a solid eighth of an inch gap (maybe more) between the body and the neck ...pic below.

I’ll need to explore this more before I know whether to shim and such. Seems like a big gap to me, but that’s based on absolutely no experience ever doing this before.

Good call on the strings! Pit bull says there's a set of elixers otw I will check them out.

Just a warning on the window decals they are a little thick to really disappear in the finish. Also recommend using additional clear glue on the backing to help with bubbles/transparancy!

There shouldn't be any gap, and if you look at your earlier pictures there isn't one when you were just holding the neck in place.

You ahven't got any pictures of the back of the bass so I don't know what you've done regards the neck screws. But the holes in the body for the screws to go through should be just big enough for the screws not to bite into the wood, so that they can pull the neck firmly down onto the body. If the screws have to screw through the body as well, they can't do that properly.

I presume you've remembered to fit the neck plate, so the screw pressure is spread out over a wider area and the screws aren't being 0pulled into the body.

Also check that the bottom of the neck pocket and the neck heel are smooth. Sometimes the act of tightening the screws can pull the wood out around the holes, which stops the neck seating properly. Get the neck sitting flat and you'll probably find the pickup heights will be fine.
