    Have you checked the depth of the cutout for the cone?
    Both FrankenWashie and I have (been forced) cut the bottom out of the main body timber exposing a cavity between said timber and the ply back. This increase in volume should help acoustically.
    EDIT, compare photos in post #10 and #25.

    Yes will go this way as well, I think this is what is meant to happen..
