Thanks Marcel..and agree gradual build up. I'm thinking of trying a swatch with reverse order of paint and stain, ie paint first, recut engrave post dry, stain on the engrave areas only leaving engrave lines bare...might be fiddly. I can visualise what I want to see so just need to be patient as it will evolve

However with that said, my family is filled with artist painters, and one thing I've noticed from them is that they keep painting and adding/pulling colours until they think it's right... and it helps lots if you have a vision/dream for your work for you to aim for...
