To me, there's a bit of a clash between all the different wood grains at the moment. I'd make the wooden control plate, pickup rings and the tailpiece cut-out area the visual interest and stain the top as black as you can.
The back and sides I'd try to make a more reddy-brown colour. Something more like what you already had with this:
