    Looks like one of them is a pen mark and one a slot for the fret. I'm guessing a measurement error that was corrected before cutting.

    Nope. Thats a boo boo that made me say caca. They are misplaced fret slots filled with Ironwood dust and superglue.

    Don't they say "Measure twice, mark once, cut once, re-measure, re-mark, cut again, fill in the cock-ups"?
