Bad at doing it all in one day and then posting in one post, so for today, have my spread out progress.
Stained the body. Only oneish coats, but I'm loving how it looks so far. Will oil it tomorrow

I was looking at that last night on mine. Did you glue a piece of wood on the heel and sand the whole thing together?

No Dj, I think he has just sanded the step at the back of the body to meet the heel and then continued sanding away the heel.
I did what you suggested adding a block to my EXA-1 build, but I left a pronounced neck heel, it just became flush with the back of the body.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
Here's the first coat of danish oil
The maple popped really nicely. The body did as well (it may seem patchy, though I looked it over thoroughly before oiling, and I love how it looks so far). Though, can hardly tell in these crappy pictures.
Will sleep, and then apply a second coat.
Should start taking shape then.
Hoping I don't have the rag catch on fire in the meantime
Some updated pictures after the second coat this morning
Will leave that to dry, and then suss if I want to go with another coat, or start putting in the hardware.
Thoughts? Should I do a third coat, or leave it at two, and chuck the hardware in?
More I look at the heel dye in this pic though, the less I'm disappointed with how it turned out. Still not ideal, but it's not as bad as I kept thinking it was from the other pic
Decided two coats will do. Got too impatient haha.
May have broken two strings haha. But it's fine, will leave them all lose until I get it all wired up when the new pots get here, and get some locking tuners or something. truss rod cover isn't on yet either, as I figured the new nut may be different, so better to be safe.
Had a play, and loving it so far. One of the better guitars I've played. Though there's a lot of fret buzz, and intonation issues, as you'd expect not being set up in any way, and having 10miles of action at the nut. But other than that, yeah, feels nice to play, hold, run up and down the neck. Think the number of oil coats on the neck was bang on. Wasn't sure about the feel of the neck at first, but after messing around on it, it feels awesome. Really quick, and feels nice
goes well with the black hardware. Yeah, I take my time too withe the setting up process, sometimes I have to play the guitar for a while

Got the first lot of hardware in the mail
Need to get another nut for the tone knob, so I can get it to sit down a bit further, and also possibly get a black one and black washer to not look as bad when popped. Or gold, either or.
Same deal with the input jack.
Slight photobomb of the gold input jack that sits miles out
