Glue spots all gone, sanding nearly done, and headstock shaped. Was a lot easier with a dremel than with a hand file.

Now I'm waiting for my custom dingotone and figuring out what I'm going to do with the headstock colour and decal etc.

I was thinking about staining the headstock the same colour as the body and neck, then cutting a "decal" from a vinyl sticker, sticking it on, staining the headstock face black, and then peeling the vinyl off to leave body-coloured lines behind. Does that seem like it'd work?

Print what you like on waterslide paper. It is the same stuff you used as a kid working on model cars. You can buy it on Fleabay and print away. Info is all over the net. I use on my builds it works great. You might want to practice once or twice

I've done waterslides on previous builds, they work great. This time I want to do something a bit different - get the stained red wood as lines showing through black. Or else white lines on a plain black headstock. I don't think I can do either of those things with waterslides, or I'd be set already.

I guess if all else fails I'll reverse the original idea and go with black lines over the red, which I can definitely do with waterslides and my cruddy old laser printer. I'll just need to do a new design because the previous ones were inline heads and the one I've been using wont' work well on a 3-a-side.

Ok, after a lot of life getting in the way, I've got the first stain coat on. Colour's nice, but it looks like I've gone and sanded through the veneer in places. Don't think there's any way to fix it, so I guess I'll keep on going and hope it's not super obvious when done.

Sorry to hear about the veneer.. but I think it's gonna still look nice when the final finish goes on.. I wish they could use about double the thickness of veneer so we could sand it more without this happening.
    Killer work so far..

G'day H, on my current Swampy Tele I used transfer decal paper and reversed it out so that the background was solid black and the logo white which comes out clear so that whatever colour is on the headstock face can show up in the logo or script text. Pretty easy and would work better with a laser printer as the ink jet I used lacked depth of colour and the black was not as dark as it should have been.

    Cheers, Waz
