No changes, the weather has been kind for the last week or so and the temp in the shed is warmish and stable so FIIK

Fortunately the neck hasn't fought anywhere near as hard as the body and it's come up a treat so very happy on that front.

For the body I still want that black burst on the top and solid on the back and sides so the Black Stump is getting sanded back and I'm planning to use black automotive acrylic which a spray test on a piece of pine has gone down quite nicely over the DT Coolangatta Gold.

I'll shoot the back and sides with a detail gun and use an airbrush for the burst.

The question I have is what to do about the final coat.

The CG stain and intensifier coats are done and curing, so from here I feel there are three options and would appreciate a recommendation/feedback from anyone who has gone down one of these paths.

    1. Final coats of the CG before spraying the burst.
    2. Shoot the burst and then do the final coat over the lot.
    3. Ignore the final coat, shoot the burst and clear coat the lot with satin acrylic.

Off to the PB shop to order some Dingo Wax and some black neck & scratchplate screws because I plan to refresh The Count while I'm at it

Yep. Same procedure on my TLA-TH for the Hannes bridge. Thankfully a nice big recessed string anchor to cover the whoopsie on the G string.

Hi Dave, best to wait for Andy to drop in as he has plenty of experience using DT with other stuff too.

From my limited experience I don't think DT top coats will go over acrylic but you could always test that theory on some scrap timber. Tend to think once you have acrylic on DT that you will have to keep going with acrylic to finish everything off. For me DT has been well behaved when coated with naughty oil and see no reason why it would react differently under acrylic.

Thanks Waz, my thoughts are to leave the CG where it is, shoot the black and the clear coat with acrylic cut and polish.

I was looking to see if someone had tried to put acrylic over DT final coat given that the stain and intensifier to my mind could suffer bleed that may be hard to correct.

I still have enough of the three CG components to do a proper test so that is where I think I need to go next

Here's a couple of pics of the neck, still have to do the wax and then the frets but it's fair to say I'm rather pleased with it so far.

I did scrape that bit of finish bleed after I took the pics

Looks great. What are you using to seal the fret board with? DT Wax of Lemon Oil?

    Cheers, Waz
