Okay, the back and sides done now.

I knocked the black bottle over in the process and lost almost all the dye in one go! Lucky for me, I had the bottle sitting in the cardboard packaging for the kit and so had minimal mess to clean up. I just through the box outside. Also lucky was the fact that I had almost finished.

So now I wait for the dye to dry and then I can start with the Tru-oil after scraping the binding. So it's all going reletively smoothly so far.

    Damn, nice work!!
I would have loved to have seen the red a little more vibrant, but like others have said, it should really pop when the clear is down.
What dye have you used on the back?
Almost looks like rattle can blackboard spray.

Zandit, it's in a photo a page or 2 back. Angelus Leather Dyes. Jet Black.

I am so happy with the way it is sitting on the timber. Even after a couple of hours it still looks the same.

I stuffed up the application on the top and pulled too much black over into the centre and mixed it into the red. It came down to a series of errors with bad choices of cotton rags and mixing the 2 dyes. I also should have probably applied a thick layer of red, waited until it dried and then applied the black and blended it in. It was my bad and I stuffed it up even after watching a few videos of the experts doing it on Youtube. I am worried that if I apply more red now that it will only get even more darker. I have used some steel wool and cut back the middle a bit, so we'll see how that turns out? I could easily fix it if the laminate wasn't so thin.

The bottom line is that it won't be a vibrant red, but instead a deep red quilt shining through the black. It's a shame as the quilt was very nice on this body.

I actually think it looks great, but this is not a bad idea, red in the middle and wipe it out towards the edges.
But even if you leave it as is, it will look amazing all glossed up

If/when I get around to ordering one of these kits for myself, I'm going to opt for the Flame Maple version, and maybe dye the front of the guitar body a yellow colour, or, do a blue burst, and then leave the back of the guitar it's natural colour, and then clear coat it.

By the way, looking good so far, can't wait to see it finished.
