I have a Washburn "Mahogany" solid timber acoustic. Sold as "Mahogany" but is actually Indonesian plantation Sapele made in Indonesia. Comes from the same family as mahogany according to Wikipedia. Washburn didn't try to hide the fact. The guitar sounds a little dark like all solid wood guitar apparently, but has a very nice tone.
I am no expert and a bloke could finish up burying himself in timber derivations, types an tones. I found it interesting having obtained the big lump of Queensland Mahogany. But I think I will stick to building and playing. If it sounds bad, it will be me.
