Gorilla isn't the best glue to use as it's almost too good and you won't get the joint apart again if you ever need to. The excess expanded glue is also difficult to remove if you don't keep an eye on it and keep wiping the excess off as it keeps expanding for hours. Standard Titebond Classic red label is fine, more than strong enough and can be steamed apart or melted with a hot thin spatula.

Gorilla is good if you've got a broken neck with a significant amount of splinters missing as it expands to fill the cracks - and it's not a joint you would possibly want to undo.

Right, got your point there. Will get the Titebond today. (anybody want some gorilla glue?) I fitted the machines on the head today and my washers are well clear of the TRC. Don't like the washers, they are cup shaped and not flat. So much for the promised warm spell, we're getting Doris instead. About fitting neck. Before or after finish? Or does it make no difference?

Finish sequence is really up to you. I'm doing all the colour work on mine before gluing, touching up the join lines and then applying the clear coats on the complete guitar. Though there's nothing to stop you applying clear coats on the separate parts, then gluing and then doing some clear coats just on the join areas.

It's more about ease of working than anything else. So if you've got loads of room and have means to hold a complete guitar in a position you can spray it, then glue everything first. If not, do as much as you can when it's separate, then glue and finish.

But I'd certainly I'd finish off any headstock work before gluing the neck on.

Yeah, I'm just about ready to finish off the neck/head. Still waiting for my sheet of mother of pearl for TRC but have the plastic one as a guide. Just setting off for titebondnow. In the pouring rain. Ta.

Got permission to use the kitchen for spraying. All windows wide open and extractor going full blast. Done 2 thin coats and a rub down in between. Starting to get to where I want to be.

Phew! Nearly there. Just got the neck to set in and it's done. Been a lot of work, due in part to rough finish of body when I got it. Plus there were no pickup ring screws in pack. God bless Amazon. All in all Been an enjoyable if challenging build. Hope it plays ok. Setting up is my department so don't see too many problems. (famous last words)

Looking good, Harry. Just remember that it's best to make up a notched piece of wood with cut-outs for the frets, so that when you clamp the neck when glueing it, that it's the fretboard that's clamped and not the frets.
