Nitro - really glad you are back in one piece!

If you had arranged so that the two magnets had opposite poles pointing upwards, then you could have stuck on a thin steel strip rather than more magnets. Or simply use two small steel inserts rather than more magnets.

As Woks said, you're almost there!

Good point Simon, i can still fit another magnet on top and they will still be flush with the cap so i could use the thin metal strip idea just gotta check the polaritys. thanks matey

    Final Steps

so while ive been laid up at home i finished the copper insulation to the cavities and the back of the pickguard and control plate cover.

i next used Simons advice and glued 2 small bits of metal to the ends of the pickguard for the magnets. I used an old scalpel blade cut in two.

Its not that the pickup holes on the pickguard were cut crooked, they weren't, i just didn't line them up when i cut out the rest of the pickguard. If i slide the pickguard over about 10-15ml then they line up perfectly.

So back online to ebay, and another pickguard is being delivered. You live and learn.

The upside, the pickups sound awesome!!

So this is how the guitar is looking at the moment and how it should look for the pickups to line up properly.

looking awesome Nitro other than the pups not lining up. Looks like the pickguard shape isn't entirely centred and you presumed the middle of the pickguard they would line up.
Oh well as you say lesson learnt.
So the pups sound great with the poles not lined up with the strings, that's a good sign !
