Got another question:
If my Dingotone Mission Beach neck is too orange, can I sand it back a tad to reduce the colour before I do the final coat or will this stuff it all up? What grit paper would I use?

it wont stuff it. but it will look faded, you only need very fine wet 2000 grit to make sure you don't take too much off in one go and keep it even. I sand in one direction too

Good advice Andy.
Hey Christo, you could try diluting the stuff with some clear top coat, maybe a ratio of 1 part dark stuff to 4 parts clear and always best to perform these experiments on light coloured scrap timber to get an indication of how it might turn out.

It's really weird. I'll have a look at it and think it's fine and it'll work really well. Then, I'll look again a couple of hours later and think, "eek, that looks way too orange!"
That's why I think even slightly faded will look okay. i think I will wait a couple of days and make a decision.
In the meantime, I'm having fun trying to get a sunburst in the body. I am hoping that it improves in applying the second coat. LOL
Updates soon. (Photos.)

It could be the light. Are you looking at it in daylight? Artificial light can often add its own tint to a colour.
Maple grain can also throw a bit of a shaded look too with a stain on top, just like the effect on shag pile carpet where from one angle it looks flatter and less dramatic whereas from another angle there is much more definition.
Check these out as examples of what I am talking about....apologies for the resolution as just using iPhone 4to take shots.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.
I have come to the conclusion that the Dingotone Mission Beach stain is very "orange". It's not a bad thing, it is what it is, but I was kinda expecting a more yellow tone. I know what Dingobass is trying to achieve here with this stain. I can only describe it as a real vintage Fender 60's orange stain - kinda what you might find on an old Jazz Bass or maybe an old Jag or Jazzmaster.
I sanded it back today with 240 grit to a point where the bare maple was coming through and then did a light coat again with the stain to even it all out.
It looks a little lighter this time and more even. I actually have grown to like it, but the family still consider it to be too orange looking. I think that when the clear coats go on, they might change their minds?
Oh and I am pleased with the drying time, but it is quite warm here in Melbourne at the moment.

.................I spy something hanging.

Nowhere near as good as Andy's burst, but I'm not upset with the progress I guess?
