Another newbie tagging along for the ride

Greetings from Melbourne - World's most liveable city, but don't include the traffic conditions because they're deplorable. Thought I would stick my head in as it seems to be the thing to do when starting out on this adventure.

Been playing for longer than I care to remember and never been any good. I have put together 3 Warmoth guitars in the past to a great deal of success and thought I would try one now which requires a finish. I have the basic skills for setting up guitars which includes fret dressing and have some woodworking skills from making cabinets for Valve amps and speaker boxes. I also design and build valve guitar amps - well design is probably not the correct term. I copy other designs and change some components to suit what I think sounds good. This is basically what every Valve amp manufacturer has been doing since the Fender Bassman and even that was copied from a text book.

I've spent the last few days reading all the wonderful information available and look forward to conversing more in the future.

Welcome along - is that a Lamington as your profile pic?

It's a Lamington Preamp with one of Grants earlier mini Lamington power amp designs using 2x 6BM8 Output Valves (old black and white TV Valves). Other than the output transformer and valves all major parts were sourced for free from other equipment. The power transformers consist of 2x 12V Output transformers from down lights (induction type not electronic). It puts out about 8-10 watts. It's very impressive for what it is and very cheap to build.

Hey welcome to the forum Valve Spanker, those Lamington amps are really interesting DIY projects, I'm going to have to try building one soon, feel free to check out my DIY Valve Amp Head project thread, I'm going to be working on getting it all up and running next year.
