Hey Dan it's looking nice the mockup. Pickup rings should be flat and not rounded on the bottom as for an arch top LP style. I can't remember if my pup surrounds were flat or curved.
I'd put some foam underneath the pups if you can't get them to sit parallel with the strings
Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

It's just about done now. I still need to work out what I'm going to do about a truss rod cover because the triangle one just doesn't do it for me.
With the pickup that wasn't sitting right, I pulled it out and bent the tabs in the opposite direction which got it a bit closer, then added some foam as well which got it almost there. I think the real problem is that the holes in the pickup ring aren't drilled on the right angle but I didn't really want to go messing with that in case I butchered it too much.
The washer on the tuner has to go bump up, otherwise there's no way to do up the bushing since you can't get a spanner in there. It's sitting good enough for now, and if it becomes a problem I'll go searching for the loctite and put a drop on there.
The nut was way too high, especially on the treble strings - the first few frets were very sharp to the point where I couldn't bring myself to play many open chords because of how bad they sounded. I knocked off the nut and there seemed to be a bit of fretboard stuck on the treble side so I cleaned that out with a chisel and also sanded the nut down a bit. Managed to get it back on and tweaked the slots a little and now it's a lot better. First time I've played with a nut and I'm happy to report that I didn't destroy anything in the process.
It's playing reasonably well now, even though I haven't done much with the frets other than give them a light polish to smooth them out a bit. I think I'll give it a while and see if there's anything I want to try fixing there as well.
The wiring went well, somehow I managed to get just about everything perfect (the phase switch was backwards to how I wanted it though) first time. The bridge volume is push/pull and splits both neck and bridge pickups. The neck volume push/pull reverses the phase of the neck pickup. I can get a decent variety of sounds out of it that way. The pickups are just the kit ones and don't sound too bad. They are pretty low output compared to the humbucker in my Pacifica which was as expected give the DC resistance readings.
Well done. Looks good and love how the flame top appears to be floating on a black background.

Cheers guys. I've got an Epiphone style SG truss rod cover on order to finish it off, and I'm thinking about picking up a tusq nut as well because I'm still not 100% happy with the current one, but apart from that it has been getting a fair bit of play recently.
