Had a spare weekend so decided to some more work on the SG.

When i glued the veneer on the the top of the guitar there was a bit of gravel that got caught between the bench and the back of the guitar, leaving a considerable dent!

So after some considerable youtube research i decided to have a crack at it. I had to sand and redo the stain on the back again anyway as the stain brought out some considerable scratches that i had been too slack to sand out..

Youtube said that if you use a wet cloth and a soldering iron the wood will swell, esp if it is bare, so i power sanded out all the scratches and went over it with 240 and then 400 grit

and then used the wet rag and soldering iron technique

As you can see it turned out a treat.
I put on a coat of stain and you could hardly see it.

( On the pic above the dent is in the exact center ) 2 coats of stain and one coat of wipe on poly, very happy with the results.

Next...... I didnt like the plastic trussrod cover so i glued a veneer of the walnut onto it, shaped it a gave it a few coats of poly.
Looks good with the new graphite nut.

Another good idea. On both my Explorers I found rosewood truss rod covers on eBay and used them instead of the daggy standard plastic one that comes with each kit.

They would look sweet esp if you have a rosewood fretboard
