Well guys it will be finished this year....hopefully!
Here's a better photo with a couple of coats of lacquer and the pickguard cut to shape.
Took the frets out last night and all looking ok, its funny when I got this kit 2 1/2 yrs ago I thought the neck was fine but alas the frets were chamfered way too much, so really need replacing to gain more string room
Looks great and good to hear you plan to have it finished this year.
No pressure but that is only 50 days away!

Less the time-off for Christmas.
How may days would you allow for that Simon? We also have the Boxing Day Test Match in there too as a distraction for those cricket fans, not me as lately our team is so pathetic I can't bear to watch.

All depends on your family commitments, plus how many parties you attend and need a day or so to recover from!
Most businesses in the UK, except retail, hospitals, emergency services etc. shut down between Christmas and new year, so if you aren't into shopping in the post-Christmas sales, or getting drunk and ending up being cared for by the emergency services and/or hospitals, you have a nice quiet week to work on your hobbies. Though over here it's mid-winter so too cold to do much guitar building in unheated workshops or garages.
Do you get deep snow in your parts too? Possibly not as a quick google shows you being situated almost due west of London?

No, not really. And it's not consistent either. Last year was forecast to be really cold with loads of snow, but instead turned out to be rather mild and wet. We had a light dusting at times that lasted a few hours, but not a lot. We've had up to maybe 6"/15cm in recent years, but even 2" is enough to bring the country to a crawl. Further north it becomes more common. By the time you get up to the Scottish border area it's generally 3°C colder anyway, so its more prone to snow, and like most places, a lot more falls on high ground than in the valleys - where most towns and villages are.
Our prevailing winds are from the south west, so blow in from the Atlantic. which itself is kept warmer than it should be for the latitude by the North Atlantic Drift - currents flowing up from the Gulf of Mexico. This explains why we normally get a lot of rain in the UK. That prevailing wind picks up a lot of moisture from the ocean and as it rises over hills, cools and forms rain clouds. If the wind is from the Arctic - north-west to north-easterly winds - then the cold air often contains little moisture, keeping it cold but dry. It's when you get two weather systems meeting over the land, one from the south west, and one from the north, than you normally get enough moisture in the air being cooled enough to form snow clouds.
We also benefit from being a long, thin island, where nowhere is less than 72 miles/116 km from a coastline, so the sea moderates our winter temperatures In fact, there's a place, Amersham, that's about 35km away to the NE that often has some of the lowest temperatures recorded in the UK. Whilst we got down to -6°C in Reading a coule of years ago, they had -17°C; which I put down to it being that bit further from the coastline (plus some local microclimate anomalies).
No sweat getting done by christmas guys, the frets and the dot inlays are out, new inlays in now just need to sand the board to a 16 inch radius and a little bit of filling required. Tomorrow should have the frets in and a coat of lacquer... my girls do have a dance concert tomorrow so hmm the lacquer might be a bit ambitious !
Frets done this morning, why is it that every time I want to lacquer it rains??![]()
