Hey guys,

Received my first DYI kit today, the JK-2 model.

I've owned 7 guitars in my lifetime, but this is my first attempt at making my own.

I thought I knew a bit about guitars, but since I started researching for this project, it turned out my technical knowledge of guitar building is very bad lol.

First question: I'm looking to buy an EMG 81 active pickup. Every guitar I've had came with it at the bridge, so I've never had to buy/install it myself.

Looking at their site (http://www.emgpickups.com/guitar/hum...g/81.html#info) there's an option for a short shaft or a long shaft. I honestly don't even know what that means or which one would fit on the JK-2 kit... any help there would be appreciated!

Second question: even though this will sound moronic, I would like to try and avoid using the neck backplate and the screws to attach the neck to the body. There's a bit of jiggle room in the neck cavity of the body at the moment, but I can add some thin wood piece to make sure it's a nice snug fit. If I then glue the neck on there without any screws, do you think it will be strong enough to handle? (I'm totally expecting someone to point out the whole reason bolt on necks exist, but really this is something I want to have some fun/experimentation with).

Cheers for your time everyone
