Mmmm, anyone for Coffee?

I like Robert Timms coffee bags. I lived in Melbourne for long enough that I can't stand the cheap instant I grew up with anymore. Don't like the pod machines for the reasons Muzza pointed out above. Baristas can be hit and miss, if you find a good one, keep going back.I find coffee bags a good compromise for home. 2 sugars, cream and vanilla essence if your being good, something stronger if its a bad day.

When I buy instant coffee I usually get stuff like Moccona, or International Roast, or Nescafe, but I'm really liking the taste of coffee made from coffee grinds, so I'm going to start buying Coffee grinds more often from now on.

I had a really nice 50's Helca coffee percolator for years until the ex left it switched on with nothing in it and cooked it. It made a nice coffee. I was most upset when I threw it away, was a bit sad about the percolator as well.

That's understandable, cause that coffee percolator must have been worth a bit, have you been able to find a good replacement for it?

To answer the question re cheaper instant coffee...
They use dry cleaning fluid in the process!
Moccona and a few of the more expensive brands are freeze dried.
The thing is, regardless of the process most of the aromatic oils are lost resulting in a cup of brown water...

To make a good cuppa, an espresso machine is a must.
Preferably a good quality machine such as Saeco or Jura.
The water temp is also critical. Anything over 95-98 degrees centigrade will destroy the bulk of the aromatic oils.

I am with Muzza on pod machines. Apart from the ecological dramas they make a very ordinary cuppa.

Cafe Lombok... pooed out coffee beans...
Came about when the folk working the plantations started to collect the poo beans as they could not afford coffee otherwise.
Having passed through the Civert, it is naturally de caffinated....
And now because it is trendy, the workers are denied thier coffee!

Funny thing is, that pooed-out coffee is supposed to be the most expensive type you can buy, or so I've heard, from the sounds of it I don't think I want to give it a try.

Thanks DB, that was a great yarn and explanation. On the same team in relation to pods. Very hard to find a decent one and so much waste in the packaging.

Also agree with an expresso machine as we have one, but only a relatively cheap Sunbeam one that does the trick for making up to a few cups at a time. Mostly used just by myself on weekends or days off.

Ordered some of the Yahava stuff already ground and it ended up too fine for the expresso machine and used it in a plunger instead. Best tasting plunger coffee I have tasted as most of the small block packs are ordinary at best.

Yeah Doc, I have heard figures of $50 a cup in trendy USA establishments...

Has anyone here been to the USA and tried the coffee?
Very ordinary... thats why Starbucks failed miserably here.
