    Nut on or nut off?

When i got my ES kit, I got a bone nut from DB. I don't want to put the nut in until I finish the guitar so that I get it right when it is all together and strung. So should I knock the factory nut off before finishing the guitar, or should I leave it in place, and knock it off when I am ready to put on the new one?

    Thanks!

I knock them out early. It's fine to have the bone nut resting in the slot unfixed while doing preliminary set up work. String tension will hold it in place.

    Pabs is right
Also you don't want to risk any of the finish work at the end... Bone for tone!

First time with a G type nut. Didn't realize string tension would hold it. Thanks!
