whoa! nice effect Dan, this is shaping up nicely. I'll be very interested in how much that changes appearance with the finishing treatment you have planned.

To be honest I didn't really choose the colour as such, it's just what the Mrs happened to have in the way of dyes, but I reckon it has turned out ok.

Glued the neck in the other day after a bit of sillyness.

It seems the neck and/or body had swelled slightly from the water in the dye and it no longer fit. Since I had dyed the neck (just a bit of yellow to give it something), I was trying to not sand down past where it was going to stick out of the body. I ended up sanding off too much because I wasn't sanding in the right spot and the neck was in tight right where it goes in then had a bit of play on either side which meant lining it up straight wasn't really working.

So I glued on some shims and sanded them down again, then dyed the neck once again. In the end I got it in straight enough I think (had the E strings on while I clamped it) and you can't see the shims from the outside. The body is there in the photo - it's just pretty black and in the shadows.

I have it some boiled linseed oil yesterday (and also coated half the laundry with it as well after knocking the bottle over...) and it doesn't seem to have changed the colour of the front too much but the neck has come up quite nicely and the black is looking pretty good. I'll let that dry for as long as I can wait then start on the wiping varnish.
