I reckon that White Knight Super Gold spray paint would be great for someone wishing to build a Gold Top Les Paul from a PBG Les Paul kit, you just need a PBG LP kit with a plain wood grain, and not a Flamed, Spalted, or Quilted top, save those for finishes that let them show through.
