I cracked up laughing at "Neck smells like a Footy boot". Can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Cool to read about waxing the pickups. Do you find you get any problems later on with the wax dripping or running on a hot day? Do you clean some/most of it off after? How?

    Nice one.
I can assure you the neck is Rock Maple. Not the first time I have seen a dark chunk of RM.
The colour usually comes from the soil the tree grew in, different trace element concentrations can cause this to happen.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

thanks for clearing that up DB, I thought the grain looked like maple but haven't seen rock maple that dark. I have seen it slightly lighter than that.

You basically clean it while it has just come out of the wax, pretty easy as still quite warm. I just use a old clean rag, wipe the base , tops etc. Really what you are doing is filling the inside of the pick ups, if you were doing humbuckers, I suggest taken the covers off and resolder. Regards melting never happened, but if you playing is a Sauna it might, of course not sure why you would but hey live free. The temp has to be up around 50 C with that said if you left your guitar in direct sun for a while, a long while it might.

Thanks DB clearing it up but, I coulndt br happier with the contrast of the Dark Maple against Light Maple Fret board, see attached neck stain with boot polish and first coats of DingoBass clear coat, photos dont do it justice.
