wow that top sketch looks like a bowl of spaghetti mate ! hahah

I have never heard of a bass cut switch, not sure why you would want one, I'd swap that for a kill switch if the owner agrees

EDIT just saw the pic of the pickguard, wow pretty involved wiring. It actually looks pretty neat. So is the humbucker split with a push pull pot ? can see 4 wires coming from it.
Should be able to get over 20 different sounds with the amount of configurations, have you worked out the total number Doc ?

70 posts to overlord I reckon this thread will have you there in no time !

Yeah, I agree, spaghetti western...lol...., you can see how overly complicated it is, my mate tends to like having rather complex switching systems in his guitars, his Bird guitar is even more complex, personally I like to keep my switching systems a bit more simpler, I'm having a hard enough time trying to work out the wiring system let alone the number of configurations, I'm not about to admit defeat yet though.

The Bass Cut is actually a variable Bass Cut control rather than a switch, if I'm interpreting the control descriptions correctly that is.

I'm not knocking overly complicated switching systems though, if it gives my mate the sounds he's after, then all well and good, and each to his own, just that complex systems can be hard to trace when something is wrong with them.

Just a guess from a quick look:

    bridge pup
    |
fat 3-way toggle switch -> bass cut -> tone -> volume -> jack
    |
    3-way lever switch

This allows you to have bridge, bridge + lever switch, lever switch

    HB
    |
    series/single/parallel mini-toggle
    |
    phase push/pull
    |
    neck/HB series/parallel push/pull
    |
3-way lever switch -> fat 3-way toggle switch
    |
    neck pup

This allows the lever switch to select neck and/or HB which is then passed to the fat 3-way toggle. The push/pulls and mini-toggle allows the HB to be series/para/single and in/out phase. Probably the most complicated switch is the neck/HB series/parallel push/pull as it will need to interact with the 3-way lever so that you get HB, HB + neck (in parallel or series), neck.

Wokks, the bass cut allows you to thin out the bass freqs depending on the cap value. The cap allows the higher frequencies to pass straight through it while the lower freqs go through the resistance of the pot like a sort of volume.
    Scott.

I'm going to see if I can have another crack at the Blazer today, hopefully last night's sleep has cleared my head so I'll be able to think better.

See, when you're working on something and you feel like your mind is tying itself in knots, sometimes it's good to just walk away from whatever you're working on and come back to it later, by doing that, you recharge your brain so that you can use your most powerfulest tool, deductive reasoning, at it's maximum effectiveness, which is very valuable, especially when you're doing some troubleshooting on something.

Next item on my agenda today is to wake myself up with a decent hot cup of coffee, so I'd better go and make myself one.

good plan Doc, between you and Weirdy sure you will work it out. I'd also go over the options with the owner may want to change or simplify the controls

I must say Doc the wiring is way over my head (I like to keep things simple!) but what a great looking axe. I would say an ash body as well

The thing is, he wants it that way with all the controls working as intended, and yeah, weirdy's being very helpful to me, he's clarified a few things and forced me to use my brain a bit more.

That's fair enough. I reckon it has more advanced technology behind its pickguard than the Apollo Lunar Lander!

Haha...I agree, as I said before, I'm more of a simple wiring system kind of guy, since I keep forgetting what all the knobs on my guitars do, then I need a refresher course....lol.

Sounds good Doc, well with Weirdys comments might be worth trying to connect the loose wires and see if you can get it all operating. Then you can decide if it needs all the wiring re-done or whether it may well be fine the existing wiring
