haha Andrew no shame at admitting you have GAS. Not many forumites that do stop at 1 or 2 builds

Bunnings way too far away. Have you got a mate that can purchase it and post it to you ?

Maybe contact Timbermate via their Aussie website to see if they can supply direct or point you to someone who can process an online order for you.

I found some ebony Timbermate! Travelling around the country for kids medical appointments I tried a Masters in Adelaide, and found nothing, but on the way back from another Sydney appointment, I had a change to visit a BGS in Dubbo and found a tub that looks like it has been sitting on the shelf for years.
Because its water based, I just added some water, mixed it up a bit and slapped some on. I figure if it doesn't work, I can always cover it up with black stump, but if it looks OK, I might try a dingotone burst.

nice one Andrew, that Timbermate has really brought out some nice basswood grain - well worth doing. Glad you hunted some down, sounds like you are on a mission across half the country !

Applied the stain coat of the dingotone black stump. There are some spots that the stain didn't take to as well. Would this be over doing it with the sanding? Do I need to go over this again or will the intensifier fix it?

    Hi Andrew,

How many stain coats is that? I do about 3 or 4 stain coats leaving about 3 - 4 days to cure between each, before the intensifying coat. I then do the same number of intensifying coats leaving 7 days between each coat. Thats about as deep as you can get it.

Hi Andy, thats just the first coat. In the last photo, the patch that looks like a flash reflection is bare wood showing through where the stain didn't take. Hopefully a few more coats will fix it.

You can always scuff it up a bit with a bit of light sanding say 240 or 320 to get it to take a bit better. I would only do this once though.
I usually apply the stain coats in a circular motion and work it into the wood, then wipe off in the direction of the grain.

the colour will deepen as it cures......patience......I have no doubt it will go darker.

Your making me want to get some DT black stump now!!!!
